This episode of the series “Alive! In America’s Delta” from August 19, 2013, focuses on the efforts of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and their partners to reintroduce whooping cranes in Louisiana. It covers: the near extinction of the whooping cranes; the captive breeding and rearing programs at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Maryland; the establishment and work of the reintroduction program at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in southwest Louisiana; the development of a whooping cranes education program for K-12 students; and a visit to the Whooping Cranes Festival in Aransus, Texas.
