Description
A 2007 documentary chronicling the experiences of writer Gwen Roland and her companion Calvin Voisin, who left civilization behind in the early 1970s to live on a houseboat in the unspoiled beauty of the Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana, the nation’s largest river swamp. This documentary covers: Roland’s family history; the building of the houseboat; their life in the Atchafalaya Basin; their friendship with wildlife photographer C.C. Lockwood; Roland and Voisin’s appearance in “National Geographic” as a part of Lockwood’s article on the Atchafalaya; Roland’s decision to leave the houseboat; her life after the swamp; and her reunion with Voisin and Lockwood. Narrator: Gwen Roland
