Andre Moreau and Beth Courtney host live coverage of the Interfaith Service at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge on August 22, 2019, celebrating the life of Governor Kathleen Blanco. Prior to the service, Moreau, Courtney and Dr. Stephen Barnes, the new director of the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, discuss Governor Blanco’s life and legacy. Moreau also presents a biography of Governor Blanco narrated by Donna Brazile. The Interfaith Service includes: an introduction by Archbishop Gregory Aymond; Governor John Bel Edwards and a Louisiana State Trooper draping the Louisiana state flag on Governor Blanco’s casket; a prayer by Bishop Michael Duca; a reading by Rabbi Barry Weinstein and Reverend Jennifer Jones in Hebrew and English; a eulogy by Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed; the Southern University Gospel Choir performing “I Shall Wear a Crown”; readings by Jane Aslam, Reverend Herman Kelly, Reverend Raymond Jetson, and Reverend Sharon Alexander; former Louisiana Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque reciting “The Governance of Power”; the St. Aloysius School Performance Choir performing “This Little Light of Mine”; a eulogy by Governor John Bel Edwards; prayers by Reverend Leo Cyrus and Reverend Van Stinson; the prayers of the faithful; a prayer by Reverend Robin McCullough Bade; the Louisiana State Troopers removing the flag from Governor Blanco’s casket; Governor Edwards presenting the flag to Raymond “Coach” Blanco; and the Southern University Gospel Choir performing “Amazing Grace.” Back in the studio, Moreau, Courtney, and Dr. Barnes share their reflections on the Interfaith Service.
