Robert Collins first reports on the week’s education headlines, including an interview with Frederick Stokley discussing his resignation as the school superintendent in Calcasieu Parish. Next, Rick Smith interviews Pat Vitter, the president-elect of the Tangipahoa Association of Educators, and Mike Deshotels of the Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE). They discuss their decision not to sign a no-strike agreement prior to the collective bargaining election for teachers in Tangipahoa Parish. Jackie Ducote, the executive director of Advocates for Public Participation in Louisiana Education (APPLE), then discusses two resources for helping to solve educational problems, Attorney General’s opinions and the Professional Practices Commission. Lastly, Naomi Geltner profiles Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, the first magnet program in the state.
