Description
This segment from the May 27, 1982, episode of “Folks” features a re-broadcast of Sharon Elizabeth Sexton’s November 5, 1981, visit to Poverty Point, a state historic site in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. Sexton reports that the site was inhabited by Native Americans around 1500 B.C. She interviews Dr. Sharon Goad, an archaeologist and professor at LSU, who discusses what we know about the Poverty Point culture and the artifacts that have been discovered at the site. This segment also includes footage of LSU students participating in Dr. Goad’s archaeological dig at the site.
