This episode of the series “Folks” from October 2, 1983, focuses on teenage pregnancy in Louisiana. Genevieve Stewart first presents facts about the prevalence of teenage pregnancy, as well as a clip of Delores Wright of Zeta Phi Beta speaking to the Urban League National Convention about a Spelman College student who gave birth and dumped her baby in a trash can. Rob Hinton then interviews Angela Martin, the director of the Teen Parent Center in Baton Rouge, who discusses the services they provide for teen mothers and their families. Next, Hinton interviews three teen mothers at the Teen Parent Center, Shonda, Kim, and Sheila, who discuss their experiences as young moms. Genevieve Stewart then meets with 11-year-old twins, Gaynel and Lionel, and 1-year-old twins, Cedric and Derek, who are all available for adoption. Lastly, she interviews Beth McLain, an adoption specialist with the State of Louisiana.
