Description
This episode of the series “En Francais” from November 1, 1981, features James Fontenot’s interview with Richard Guidry and Amanda LaFleur. They discuss Le Theatre Cadien, a local theater group in Lafayette, Louisiana, that produces and performs original plays in the Cajun French dialect. Fontenot then presents Le Theatre Cadien’s performance of the play “Mille Miseres.” The play features a story of conflict between the traditional Acadian lifestyle and the modern world and one man’s refusal to allow himself to be assimilated into mainstream American culture. Following the play, Fontenot interviews David Marcantel and Amanda LaFleur. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
