Description
This episode of the series “En Francais” from December 13, 1981, features Philippe Gustin’s visit to the preparations for the Bonfires on the Levee in Lutcher, Louisiana. Since the 1800s, several communities in St. James Parish burn these bonfires on Christmas Eve night to light the way for Papa Noel along the Mississippi River. Gustin interviews Mr. and Mrs. Jean Doradieu, Eugene Bleakley, and Aimee Brady. James Fontenot then interviews Cajun singer Rae Anna Marks of Marksville, Louisiana. She also performs three songs. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
