This episode of the series “En Francais” from April 10, 1983, features the fifth and final part of “La Cheniere Au Tigre,” a documentary about a small island off the coast of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, that was devastated by hurricanes. It includes interviews with: J. Oreo White; Murphy “Red” Sellers; Dr. Walter Sagrera; and Dora Choates Veazey. James Fontenot then interviews: Dr. William Arceneaux, the Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education; Dr. Cecil Taylor, a former French professor and chancellor of Louisiana State University (LSU); and James Domengeaux, the president of the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL). They provide an update on the work of the Governor’s Commission on French as a Second Language. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
