This episode of the series “En Francais” from February 5, 1984, features the first part of Amanda LaFleur’s profile of St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. Helen Gaienne first presents an oral history of St. Landry Parish, including the story of Jim Bowie, who grew up in Opelousas. LaFleur then interviews Sister Odiede Mouton. She discusses the history of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Couteau, which opened in 1821. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
