Beth George hosts a special report on the opening day of the 1981 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 20, 1981. It features highlights from Governor Dave Treen’s opening address to a joint session of the Legislature. In his speech, Governor Treen discusses the potential areas where the state can spend the oil and gas revenues in the Enhanced Mineral Trust Fund, including the construction of schools, juvenile detention and treatment facilities, and roads and bridges, cleaning up hazardous waste disposal sites, promoting recreation and culture, protecting the state’s coastline from coastal erosion, and providing aid to local governments for construction projects.
