Description

Jeff Duhe hosts live coverage of Governor Mike Foster’s opening address to the 2002 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 29, 2002. Prior to the speech, State Senator C.D. Jones leads a prayer, Shalacy Griffin sings “God Bless America,” and Governor Foster and Anna Davis, the widow of former Governor Jimmie Davis, present University of New Orleans (UNO) Chancellor Greg O’Brien with the Jimmie Davis Sunshine Award. During his off-the-cuff speech, Governor Foster discusses: his tax reform plan; his concerns over legislators playing games with the state budget, including cutting taxes without a plan for an alternate stream of revenue; and his criticism of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI).
