Description
Shauna Sanford hosts live coverage of Governor Bobby Jindal’s opening address to the 2012 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on March 12, 2012. Prior to the speech, Sanford and Barry Erwin of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) discuss Governor Jindal’s controversial education reform proposals and the upcoming Democratic response to the Governor’s address, the first in the state’s history. In his speech, Governor Jindal outlines his education reform proposals, including changing the teacher tenure system, merit pay for teachers, and expanding the school voucher program. He also discusses his retirement reform proposals for new and existing state employees. Following the speech, Sanford and Erwin analyze Governor Jindal’s remarks and preview the committee hearings on three education reform bills related to school choice and the voucher program, teacher tenure, and early childhood education.
