Description
Andre Moreau hosts live coverage of Governor John Bel Edwards’ opening address to the 2018 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on March 12, 2018. Prior to the speech, Moreau, Robert Travis Scott of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR), and reporter Kelly Spires preview the Governor’s speech and the session. In the House chamber, Reverend Rodney Wood leads a prayer and Hannah Rice sings the National Anthem. During his speech, Governor Edwards discusses: the importance of fixing the $1 billion state budget deficit; his administration’s accomplishments in the areas of infrastructure, economic development, Medicaid expansion, criminal justice reform, and the record number of adoptions of foster children; and his legislative agenda, including regulatory relief, easing licensing requirements for military families, streamlining recreational hunting and fishing licenses, fighting childhood hunger, school safety, equal pay for equal work, raising the minimum wage, studying Louisiana’s high maternal mortality rate, combating sexual harassment, and requiring hazing prevention education. Following the speech, Moreau and Scott analyze Governor Edwards’ remarks.
