Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana’s Workforce in Crisis” from May 27, 1987, features Warren Bell leading a discussion between the panelists and audience members on the financial issues facing unemployed workers in Louisiana. The panelists are: David Sledge, the executive director of Family Debt Counselors; David Bratcher, a bankruptcy attorney; and Shelly Warren, a housing counseling advisor with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Prior to the discussion, Rob Hinton profiles the financial struggles of the Watts Family. He interviews Shannon Watts, an unemployed sheet metal worker, and Angela Watts, his wife. The panelists and audience members then discuss: debt counseling services; filing for bankruptcy; HUD’s Assignment Program; and the services available to the unemployed through government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
