This documentary from August 29, 2016, focuses on the Burden Family’s donation of Windrush Plantation and 440 acres of land in Baton Rouge to Louisiana State University (LSU) for the benefit of future generations. It covers: the history of Windrush Plantation and the Burden Family; the three siblings who donated the land, Ione Easter Burden, William Stephen Pike Burden, Jr., and Ollie Brice Steele Burden; Steele Burden’s development of the gardens around Windrush Plantation; the Burden Foundation’s donation of the land to LSU with the stipulation that it cannot be developed; the establishment of the LSU Rural Life Museum on the property; the museum’s focus on the working classes in the 18th and 19th centuries; the LSU AgCenter’s role in maintaining the property; the Botanic Gardens; and the educational programs available to the public.
