Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from October 20, 2013, features an interview with C. Paul Hilliard conducted by Beth Courtney. Hilliard, a resident of Lafayette since 1955, is a World War II veteran, a wildcatter, and a philanthropist. He is the president of Badger Oil Company and a major donor to the Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) and the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. He discusses: growing up on a farm in Wisconsin; having access to the news as child through his job delivering newspapers; his service in the Marine Corps during World War II; his involvement with the National World War II Museum; his work in the oil industry; the early oil days in Louisiana; his late wife’s love of art and their involvement with the art museum at ULL; national opinions of the oil and gas industry; the future of the industry; living in Lafayette; and the importance of education.
