Description
A speech by Mark Cooper and Mike Edmonson before the Baton Rouge Press Club on July 20, 2009. Cooper is the Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and Edmonson is the Commander of the Louisiana State Police. They discuss the successful preparations for the 2008 hurricane season and Hurricane Gustav, including: the utilization of unified command groups; the “Get a Game Plan” campaign; increased communication; and the establishment of a business emergency operations center. They also discuss further improvements for the upcoming 2009 hurricane season, including: evacuee tracking; a bus dispatch and tracking system; and improved contraflow.
