A speech by Governor John Bel Edwards before the Baton Rouge Press Club on May 9, 2016. He also answers questions from the audience on the following topics: a bill separating the budget for the Attorney General’s Office from the General Appropriations bill; an amendment to the budget that eliminates all funding for the Office of the Inspector General; the capital outlay budget; the rail projects under consideration; the progress of a task force looking at long-term structural budget and tax reform; the funding for the state’s safety net hospitals; and his opposition to a single governing board in higher education.
