- Tarpley, Ed Speaker
A speech by Ed Tarpley before the Baton Rouge Press Club on July 30, 2018. Tarpley is the former district attorney in Grant Parish and an advocate for the effort to require unanimous jury verdicts in felony convictions in Louisiana. He discusses: the Jim Crow origins of the non-unanimous jury verdict law that has been in effect in Louisiana since 1880; the Legislature’s passage of a constitutional amendment requiring unanimous juries at the 2018 Regular Session; the bipartisan support for the constitutional amendment; and his work in educating voters about the issue before the November 6th election. He also answers questions from the audience.
