Description
Jim Engster moderates a debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club on October 5, 2020, between six candidates for Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish: Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the incumbent; former State Representative Steve Carter; attorney E. Eric Guirard; State Representative C. Denise Marcelle; businessman Jordan Piazza; and Metro Councilman Matt Watson. The debate begins with each candidate’s opening statement. Members of the press then ask the candidates questions on the following topics: the incorporation of the City of St. George; managing the COVID-19 pandemic; revisiting the discussion on the tolerance resolution; their plan for reducing crime; and the biggest impediment to racial understanding in the parish. The candidates then ask another candidate a question. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
