Description

Jim Engster moderates a debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club on October 12, 2020, between three of the candidates for United States Senate: Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins (D); Baton Rouge businessman Antoine Pierce (D); and New Orleans teacher Peter Wenstrup (D). The incumbent, United States Senator Bill Cassidy (R), declined his invitation to attend. The debate begins with each candidate’s opening statement. Members of the press then ask the candidates questions on the following topics: Cassidy’s support of the 2017 tax cuts; Cassidy’s support for President Donald Trump; how long they have been a Democrat and whether they would consider switching parties; who they voted for in the 2019 gubernatorial election; whether they would vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett as a Supreme Court Justice; their stance on defunding the police; and Cassidy’s vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The candidates then ask each other questions. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
