Description

This episode of the series “Press Club” features Jim Engster moderating a debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club on October 24, 2022, between two of the candidates for United States Senate, Gary Chambers (D) and Syrita Steib (D). United States Senator John Kennedy (R), the incumbent, and Luke Mixon (D), declined their invitations to attend. The debate begins with each candidate’s opening statement. Members of the press then ask the candidates questions on the following topics: why they are running for office; homeowners insurance; Senator Kennedy’s votes on Supreme Court nominees; whether they accept campaign contributions from political action committees (PACs); the Ronald Greene case; inflation; abortion rights; expanding the Supreme Court; whether they would have voted to certify the 2020 presidential election; President Joe Biden’s job performance; reducing the state’s homicide rate; and the Senate filibuster. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
