This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from February 28, 2018, features Robyn Merrick leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on the impact of sexual harassment in Louisiana workplaces. A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Elizabeth Crisp of the Advocate newspaper; Dr. Courtland Chaney of Human Resource Management Associates, Inc.; and Vicki M. Crochet, an attorney with Taylor Porter. The audience members then discuss the issue of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. A panel of experts then joins the audience to answer their questions. The panelists are: State Senator Sharon Hewitt; Janice Lansing, the chairwoman of the Governor’s Task Force on Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Policy; Craig Broome of the Louisiana Society for Human Resource Management; and Allison Jones, an attorney with Downer, Jones, Marino, and Wilhite in Shreveport. They discuss: the connection between gender inequality and sexual harassment in the workplace; empowering people to report sexual harassment; the responsibilities of employers and employees; how to educate children and young adults about this issue; the objectification of women in the media; and possible legislation on this issue at the 2018 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature.
