A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Ray Pingree of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication; Dr. Michael Henderson of the LSU Public Policy Research Lab; Judi Terzotis, the president of the Advocate newspaper; and John DeSantis of the Houma Times newspaper. They discuss: the public’s level of trust in the news media; the history of politicians attacking the press; the impact of technology on the media; their advice for aspiring journalists; the public’s confusion in differentiating news stories and opinion columns in the age of social media; and fake news. Hosts: Beth Courtney and Bob Mann
