This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from March 27, 2019, features Andre Moreau leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on the pros and cons of legalizing sports betting in Louisiana. It includes interviews with: Ronnie Johns, the chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board; State Representative Joseph Marino; Reverend Gene Mills of the Louisiana Family Forum; and Paul West, an attorney with Butler Snow LLC. They discuss: the likelihood that sports betting will be legalized; maintaining the integrity of sporting events; the possibility of expanding into mobile gaming; geo-fencing; the impact of gambling on youth; the sports leagues pushing for integrity fees from the casinos; whether the revenue from sports betting should be dedicated within the state budget; combating compulsive gambling; and educating children about gambling.
