Description
This segment from the January 16, 1981, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features an update on the case of the “Buckeye Three,” three white teenagers who continued to attend their neighborhood school of Buckeye High School through a change in parental custody in defiance of the desegregation order in Rapides Parish. This report includes: an order made by Judge Nauman Scott permanently banning the teenagers from attending Buckeye High School; the dismissal of contempt of court proceedings against state Judge Richard Lee; and Judge Scott’s reiteration that the desegregation and busing plan for Rapides Parish will be carried out. This report also features interviews with protestors outside of Judge Nauman Scott’s Alexandria courtroom, in support of both Judge Scott and Judge Lee. Host: Beth George Host: Ron Blome
