Description
This segment from the April 17, 1981, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features a repeat showing of a report on the Old River Control Structure of the Mississippi River, which was badly damaged during the record flood of 1973. This report includes a look at a controversial study written by LSU Professors, Dr. Raphael Kazmann and Dr. David Johnson, on what would happen if the Old River Control Structure failed and the river began to change course. It also features a visit to the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where the Army Corps of Engineers tests flood scenarios and is designing an auxiliary control structure for the river. This report originally aired on November 14, 1980. Host: Beth George Host: Ron Blome
