This segment from the July 16, 1982, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features a report on how well Governor Dave Treen’s proposed legislation fared in the 1982 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. This report looks back at the priorities outlined by Governor Treen in his opening address to the Legislature, including the Coastal Wetland Environmental Levy (CWEL), using inmate labor in the construction of state prisons, mandatory jail sentences for DWIs, reform of the workmen’s compensation system, and a repeal of the prevailing wage law. David Young reports that Governor Treen was only able to pass the DWI legislation, as well as new financial disclosure requirements for the Governor and gubernatorial candidates.
