This segment from the November 11, 1983, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on the Crime Victims Reparations Fund (CVRF). Ekings reports that the CVRF is funded by convicted criminals. She interviews Eric McBride, a crime victim and the first recipient of the CVRF, who discusses the injuries he sustained after being shot in the face and the fear that he lives with following the shooting. Ekings also interviews: State Senator Ken Osterberger on his reasons for authoring the legislation that created the CVRF; Watson Finister, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Corrections, on the claims that have been paid out through the CVRF; and State Representative Woody Jenkins on his view that criminals are not paying enough to the CVRF.
