This segment from the March 30, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ recap of the second and final week of the 1984 Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Ekings reports that the Legislature passed $700 to $750 million of Governor Edwin Edwards’ $1.1 billion tax package and that Louisiana residents are outraged by the increase in their tax burden. This report includes highlights from a press conference with Governor Edwards discussing his disappointment that his full plan did not pass and his willingness to consider changes following the public outcry over the increased taxes.
