This segment from the October 19, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Ken Johnson’s report on the findings of a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report on drunk driving and the efforts to combat drunk driving in Louisiana. Johnson reports that 27,000 highway deaths each year in the United States are caused by drunk drivers. He interviews: State Representative Richard Baker; Ruth Weill, the president of Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD); Laurie Brandt, victim’s sister; State Senator Tommy Hudson; and Betsy Griffin, victim’s mother.
