Description

This segment from the November 30, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on the negative reaction of environmentalists to Governor Edwin Edwards’ appointment of Jim Porter as the new Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) following the resignation of William Huls. Ekings reports that environmentalists feel that the state favors oil and gas interests over environmental concerns, that coastal zone management should be moved from DNR to the Department of Environmental Quality, and that DNR discourages public input. Ekings interviews: Ross Vincent of the Ecology Center; DNR Secretary Jim Porter; and Bill Bailey, the Vice President of the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. Host: Beth Courtney
