This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from May 28, 1985, features Ken Johnson hosting a daily legislative report on the 1985 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Johnson first reports on the day’s headlines. These stories include: State Representative Quentin Dastugue speaking in favor of repealing the prevailing wage law; an interview with State Representative Garey Forster on the House Transportation Committee approving a mandatory seat belt bill for passengers in the front seat; State Representative Charles Dewitt testifying in favor of a bill equalizing the distribution of the revenue generated by the tobacco tax; and an interview with State Senator Ben Bagert on the status of his bill legalizing casino gambling in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Next, Laura Myers reports on the Senate Judiciary C Committee defeating two bills legalizing a state lottery.
