This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from June 3, 1988, features Ken Lormand and Roger Sockman reporting on the seventh week of the 1988 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Sockman first reports on the status of Governor Buddy Roemer’s education reform package, including the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) deferring action on Governor Roemer’s compromise plan for non-instructional funding and the Senate Education Committee passing a bill consolidating the state’s four higher education boards. It includes highlights of Governor Roemer speaking at the BESE Board meeting. Next, Lormand interviews State Representative Jimmy Long, the chairman of the House Education Committee, and State Senator Armand Brinkhaus, the chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
