This segment from the January 19, 1990, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Karen Nachman’s report on the State of Louisiana filing a federal lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to stop the incineration of 1.7 million gallons of a banned pesticide called Dinoseb at the Rollins Environmental Services plant in Alsen. Nachman reports that the EPA, which granted the Dinoseb contract to Rollins in December 1987, has suspended Rollins’ permit to receive and dispose of hazardous wastes from EPA superfund sites due to non-compliance. She interviews: Tim Hardy of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ); John Sheppard of the Attorney General’s Office; Vicki Arroyo of the Governor’s Environmental Council; Jim Monahan, Alsen resident; Mary Berry, Alsen resident; E.W.
