Collins first reports on the week’s headlines, including highlights of Governor Edwin Edwards testifying in favor of a compromise bill calling for a limited constitutional convention, as well as David Duke testifying against the bill. Duhe then reports on the latest action at the State Capitol, including: State Senator B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn expressing his concerns about the increase in state spending; an interview with fisherman Oswald Broussard at a rally of fishermen protesting against a bill allowing landowners to deny access to fisheries; Victor Bussie, the president of the Louisiana AFL-CIO, testifying on the fair share bill; an interview with House Speaker John Alario on the lobbyist disclosure bill; State Representatives Avery Alexander and Chuck McMains debating a bill establishing term limits for state legislators; an interview with State Representative Raymond Jetson on a bill allowing billboards on Interstate 49; and State Representatives Roy Brun and Israel Curtis discussing a bill authorizing the use of metal detectors in public schools. Next, Duhe reports on the economic impact of the Louisiana Lottery. He interviews: Ronnie Clifton of the Louisiana Lottery Corporation; Ed Steimel, lottery opponent; Jim Graedl, Bauerlein Advertising; John Rombach of the Legislative Fiscal Office; and Commissioner of Administration Raymond Laborde. Lastly, Collins conducts an in-studio interview with: Michael Carr, the outgoing president of the Louisiana Lottery Corporation; Mary Jeansonne, the chairwoman of the Lottery Board; and Greg Garland of the Advocate newspaper. They discuss Garland’s series of articles on the lottery and the search for a new lottery president.
