This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from June 19, 1992, features Robert Collins and Jeff Duhe reporting on the twelfth and final week of the 1992 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Collins first reports on the week’s headlines, including Governor Edwin Edwards signing the bill authorizing a casino in New Orleans. Duhe then reports on the latest action at the State Capitol, including: an interview with State Representative Melissa Flournoy on her sex education bill; an interview with State Senator John Hainkel on his bill related to taking pre-1972 cars off the road in order to improve air quality; State Representative Sean Reilly presenting a bill delaying the start of the teacher evaluation program to 1994; an interview with Fred Skelton of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers (LFT) on the bill; an interview with environmentalist Pam Tynes on the repeal of the tax of hazardous waste; an interview with Commissioner of Insurance Jim Brown on his department’s new insurance education pamphlets; Al Ewing of Cajun Electric presenting a book to Governor Edwards; and Governor Edwards discussing his intention to veto the bill forbidding the sale of music with explicit lyrics to minors.
