This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from February 26, 1993, focuses on revitalizing minority communities. Jeff Duhe first reports on the efforts to clean up the Ledbetter Heights neighborhood in Shreveport. He reports that the Shreveport Landmark Corporation (SLC) has purchased and restored 182 homes in the neighborhood. He interviews: Annie Johnson, the head of SLC; Robert Lavarry, SLC employee; Nancy Powell, SLC education coordinator; and Bernie Bracken, store owner. Robert Collins then leads a panel discussion with: Annie Johnson, SLC; Edgar Chase, the head of the business department at Dillard University; and Dr. James Llorens, the head of the political science department at Southern University. They discuss the factors involved with revitalizing minority communities around the state.
