This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from April 2, 1993, features Robert Collins, Jeff Duhe, and Arcie Chapa reporting on the first week of the 1993 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Collins first report on the week’s headlines, including comments by State Representative John Alario on the House passing a bill limiting their ability to issue more credit. Duhe then reports on the rift between Governor Edwin Edwards and the Legislature on the best way to deal with the state’s $618 million state budget shortfall. His report includes highlights of Governor Edwards’ opening address to the Legislature. It also includes interviews: Bernie Pinsonat, pollster; State Representative Chuck McMains; State Representative Robert Adley; Governor Edwards; State Representative Steve Theriot; and Commissioner of Administration Raymond Laborde. Lastly, Chapa reports on the health care reform package sponsored by Governor Edwards and Commissioner of Insurance Jim Brown.
