Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from April 23, 1993, features Robert Collins, Jeff Duhe, and Arcie Chapa reporting on the fourth week of the 1993 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Chapa first reports on Louisiana State University (LSU) bracing for a $33 million budget cut. Her report touches on the $45 million backlog of deferred maintenance, the possible loss of faculty members, and the possible closure of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. She interviews: John Spustek, LSU Facility Services; LSU Chancellor Bud Davis; Veronica Makowsky, LSU literature professor; and William Jenkins, the dean of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Duhe then reports on the House Appropriations Committee considering the use of a new method of estimating the size of the state budget deficit. His report includes highlights of John Rombach of the Legislative Fiscal Office testifying before the committee and Sammie Cosper of the Board of Regents speaking at the Baton Rouge Press Club.
