Description
This segment from the May 6, 1994, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe’s report on a proposal at the 1994 Fiscal Session of the Louisiana Legislature to create a $10 million fund for the state’s public defender system. Duhe first reports on the problems facing the state’s public defender system due to a lack of state funding. He interviews: Sam Dalton, attorney; Clive Stafford-Smith, attorney and founder of Pro Bono Clinics; and Rick Tessier, public defender. Duhe then presents highlights of State Representative Hunt Downer speaking against the fund on the House floor.
