Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from December 30, 1994, features Robert Collins and Jeff Duhe reviewing the major stories of 1994 and previewing the major stories of 1995. Duhe first reports on the top political stories of 1994, including Governor Edwin Edwards’ announcement that he will not run for reelection in 1995. Next, Collins conducts an in-studio interview with John Maginnis of the Louisiana Political Review and John Hill of the Gannett News Service. They discuss: why Governor Edwards is not running in 1995; the Texaco settlement; the higher education desegregation case settlement; and Sammy Nunez’s future as Senate president. Collins then presents short interview clips with a few of the candidates in the 1995 gubernatorial election, including attorney Phil Preis, former Governor Buddy Roemer, Congressman Cleo Fields, State Treasurer Mary Landrieu, and State Senator Mike Foster. Lastly, Maginnis and Hill discuss the 1995 Governor’s Race and the state budget.
