This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from November 17, 1995, features Robert Collins, Jeff Duhe, and Arcie Chapa reporting on the November 18th runoff in the gubernatorial election between Congressman Cleo Fields and State Senator Mike Foster. Chapa first reports on where the candidates stand on education reform. She interviews: Cynthia Lewis, public school teacher; Jo Batiste, public school principal; Fred Skelton, president of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers (LFT); Mary Washington, president of the Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE); and Ruth Petry, executive director of the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana. Next, Collins conducts an in-studio interview with two former gubernatorial candidates, State Treasurer Mary Landrieu and attorney Phil Preis. They discuss education as an issue in the campaign. Lastly, Duhe interviews Fields and Foster in their final interviews before the election.
