Description

This segment from the September 20, 1996, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robert Collins and Arcie Chapa reporting on the proposed constitutional amendment on the September 21st statewide ballot which allows Louisiana voters veto power if the Louisiana Legislature votes to expand gambling in the state. Chapa first reports on the economic impact of gambling in the state, especially in Shreveport and Bossier City. Her report includes interviews with Dr. Loren Scott, economist, and Bernie Pinsonat, pollster. It also includes comments by Governor Mike Foster at a recent press conference. Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with two gambling opponents, State Senator Jay Dardenne and C.B. Forgotston, New Orleans attorney. They discuss their differing views on the amendment.
