This segment from the September 27, 1996, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe’s report on the results of the primary for the 1996 United States Senate election with State Representative Woody Jenkins and former State Treasurer Mary Landrieu making the runoff. He interviews: Susan Howell, pollster and political science professor at the University of New Orleans (UNO); Wayne Parent, political science professor at LSU; and James Llorens, chairman of the political science department at Southern University. His report also includes an interview with Jenkins during a trip to Washington, D.C. and United States Senator J. Bennett Johnston endorsing Landrieu. Host Robert Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with Jim Nickel, the chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party, and Rhett Davis, the executive director of the Louisiana Republican Party. They discuss the state of the race between Jenkins and Landrieu.
