This segment from the September 23, 2005, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Kevin Gautreaux’s report on the role of agents from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries leading the search and rescue operations in New Orleans in the weeks following Hurricane Katrina. Sergeant Rachel Zechenelly and Sergeant Billy Gomillion share their firsthand accounts of evacuating residents by boat from the Greater New Orleans area in the first two weeks after the storm.
