This segment from the September 30, 2005, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ visit to the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s (UMCOR) Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin in St. Mary Parish. While touring the warehouse, Ekings talks to Gwen Redding, the Executive Director of UMCOR, about UMCOR’s role in shipping donated supplies all around the world, the relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, and the types of supplies available at the depot. She also speaks to storm survivor Jim Wyche about the necessity of the UMCOR supplies and Odile Weiner, an UMCOR volunteer from Belgium, about why she decided to help the relief effort. Ekings then visits St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville, a site that received a shipment of supplies from the UMCOR depot. She interviews Vermilion Parish Clerk of Court Diane Meaux Broussard, the head of the emergency operations at the church, about the relief effort and the importance of the supplies to area residents.
