Description
This segment from the “Katrina and Rita: A Year of Recovery” special from August 25, 2006, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Vermilion Parish almost one year after Hurricane Rita. While visiting Erath, he talks to town Alderman Donald Menard about the challenges facing residents, including the lack of a grocery store. Whinham also tours the construction site of Erath High School and talks to Principal Francis Touchet about the opening of the school in the fall. Whinham then visits the town of Delcambre, where he speaks to Edwin LeBlanc, a co-owner of LeBlanc’s Oil Company, about the town fighting for its survival after losing about one-third of its residents.
