This segment from the October 17, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Donna LaFleur’s visit to the “Java! The History of Coffee Roasters in Louisiana” exhibit at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum in Lake Charles. LaFleur talks to Susan H. Reed about the exhibit and the history of the use of chicory in coffee. The exhibit highlights the major regional coffee roasters in the state: Community Coffee in Baton Rouge; French Market Coffee in New Orleans; Mello Joy in Lafayette; and Jelks Coffee in Shreveport.
